Ciampino Airport CIA
Ciampino airport is situated 12.0 km south southeast of central Rome, just outside the Greater Ring Road the circular motorway around the city. The Ciampino Airport was opened in 1916 and is one of the oldest airports still in operation. It was Rome’s main airport until 1960, with traffic amounting to over 2 million passengers per year.
The first thing that you need to know is that there are two airports in Rome, the Ciampino airport and the Fiumicino airport. The Ciampino airport is the smaller of the two airports and it services fewer flights than its larger counterpart. This airport is conveniently located only about 12 km (8 miles) from the center of Rome and 82 km (52 miles) from Civitavecchia Port. This does make it the closer of the two airports. If distance is a concern, Ciampino could be the right choice for you right off the bat. Though it is now used as a commercial airport, it was once a military airport that has since been converted. It is known as a low-cost airport with several of the budget airlines taking off from Ciampino.
Ciampino Airport is the 10th busiest airport in Italy with nearly 6 million passengers.
Ciampino Airport operates from 1916 and is located 20 minutes by car from Rome.
Ciampino Airport “G. B. Pastine” has only one terminal. This makes things very easy to navigate. It is a relatively small airport, which is better in a lot of ways when it comes to trying to navigate the airport. All flights that are coming into or going out of Ciampino will leave from this singular terminal.
